Steam Banner Sizes: The 2026 Capsule & Asset Guide

The complete reference for Steam capsule and banner sizes in 2026 — updated dimensions, safe areas, and how studios automate the full asset pack with agentic AI.

Steam Banner Sizes: The 2026 Capsule & Asset Guide

Every game launched on Steam ships with roughly a dozen distinct banner and capsule sizes — plus a full set of localized variants, seasonal refreshes and event overrides. Below is the current spec, straight from the official Steamworks graphical assets documentation, and a look at why studios are moving this whole workload to agentic AI.

Important: Steam raised most capsule dimensions in August 2024. Old sizes are no longer accepted for new submissions. Everything below reflects the current spec.

The 1–3-star problem

Ask any art director to rank the work on their plate from 1 to 5 stars. Concept art, hero key-art, cinematic trailers — those are 4–5-star tasks that shape brand and drive wishlists. Resizing that key-art into thirteen Steam formats, moving the logo into the safe area on each, re-cropping for every localized SKU, and versioning the pack for the next seasonal sale? That is grinding 1–3-star work. It is important, but it is not what your senior creatives should be spending their week on.

This is the tier of production that agentic AI is quietly taking over inside enterprise studios.

Trailers

Steam trailers should ship at 1920 × 1080, H.264, 30 fps, and be uploaded through the video manager on your Steamworks page. Full spec and best practice in the Steam trailers documentation.

Artwork Overrides — where the pain compounds

Valve''s own Artwork Overrides tool exists because studios ship time-limited creative all year: majors, tournaments, DLC drops, seasonal sales. Each override means regenerating the full capsule pack in a new visual system, then rolling it back when the promotion ends. Multiply that by every language you support and you have the real Steam art workload.

The localization multiplier

Steam supports 29+ store languages. If your game has localized logos or on-capsule marketing copy, the thirteen-format pack becomes a thirteen-format pack per language, per campaign window. Nothing about that math should involve a senior art director.

How agentic AI takes over the Steam asset pack

Inside Virtuall, Nyx handles this workload as a blueprint. You give the system your hero art and brand rules once; the agent produces the full pack.

  • Spec-locked blueprints. Each capsule format is a blueprint with the current Steam dimensions, safe areas and "just logo and artwork" constraints baked in — so nothing ever ships at the old 460×215 by accident.
  • Consistency across the pack. Nyx keeps art direction consistent from Main Capsule to Library Hero to Event Cover. One visual system, every format.
  • Localized variants in one pass. Swap the localized logo and copy; Nyx regenerates the entire language-specific pack in a single run.
  • Governance and versioning. Every asset lives in a governed library with approval trails, so marketing leads and legal can sign off before anything is uploaded to Steamworks.
  • Cost control. Because generation happens under a shared budget with FinOps controls, producers see exactly what the capsule pack costs per title, per campaign.

The outcome is simple: creatives spend their week on the hero key-art and the cinematic trailer. The derivative pack — the 1–3-star work — runs on its own.

Frequently asked questions

What image sizes does Steam require for a store page?

At minimum: Header Capsule 920×430, Small Capsule 462×174, Main Capsule 1232×706, Vertical Capsule 748×896, and screenshots at 1920×1080 or larger in a 16:9 ratio. Page Background at 1438×810 is optional.

What size is the Steam Library Hero?

3840×1240 pixels, PNG, with a safe area reserved for the Library Logo which sits on top of it.

What format should the Steam Library Logo be?

PNG with a transparent background, up to 1280 pixels wide and/or 720 pixels tall. It renders over the Library Hero so transparency is required.

What changed in the August 2024 Steam asset update?

Steam raised the accepted sizes for most capsules — the Header Capsule moved from the old 460×215 to 920×430, and the Main and Vertical Capsules also received larger current specs. Old dimensions are no longer accepted.

Can AI generate a full Steam capsule pack?

Yes. Agentic systems like Nyx inside Virtuall run each Steam format as a spec-locked blueprint, generate the entire pack from a single key-art brief, and produce localized and seasonal variants under governed brand rules.
